The GTO remains the apprentice or trainee’s legal employer and provides support to both the apprentice or trainee and the host employer throughout the apprenticeship or traineeship.

  • Using a GTO takes much of the administration and responsibility associated with employing an apprentice or trainee off your hands. We manage employment arrangements, wages and conditions, training coordination and ongoing support, while you provide the workplace experience and day-to-day supervision.

A GTO can also provide additional support if challenges arise during the apprenticeship or traineeship, helping both the employer and the apprentice or trainee achieve a successful outcome.

  • Australian Training Company (ATC) is the legal employer of the apprentice or trainee. The apprentice or trainee is placed with your business as the host employer and works as part of your team.

  • A host employer is a business that provides an apprentice or trainee with practical, on-the-job experience. While ATC employs the apprentice or trainee, the host employer provides the workplace, supervision and opportunities for the apprentice or trainee to develop their skills.

ATC works with you to help ensure the workplace experience supports the apprentice or trainee's training and assessment requirements.

  • ATC employs the apprentice or trainee and manages their payroll, including wages and other employment-related payments in accordance with the applicable industrial arrangements.

  • No. ATC coordinates the apprenticeship or traineeship and works with the Registered Training Organisation (RTO), apprentice or trainee and host employer to support the training program.

Your business will still need to provide appropriate workplace opportunities, supervision and support so the apprentice or trainee can develop and demonstrate their skills.

  • ATC works with the apprentice or trainee and the RTO to coordinate training and assessment. We also work with your business to ensure the training program aligns with the workplace and the apprentice or trainee's role.

  • Talk to us as soon as possible. One of the key benefits of using a GTO is that we can work with you to address changes in your business or workforce requirements.
