Duties

  • Identifying problems in engines and systems

  • Repairing and replacing worn and defective parts

  • Diagnose and repair: exhaust systems, clutch systems, ignition systems, charging systems and braking systems

  • Reassembling mechanical components

  • Performing scheduled maintenance services

Mechanics perform maintenance repairs and routine servicing. They are often separated into three classes based on the type of machines they work on; lightweight (passenger motor cars), heavy vehicle (commercial diesel trucks) and plant mechanic (plant and earthmoving equipment).
