Joshua’s Story

Joshua is in Year 11 and commenced his School Based Traineeship in February 2022. He works at Sydney Gymnastics and Aquatic Centre in Rooty Hill after school, weekends and during school holidays.

He credits the traineeship for providing him with an environment where he can learn, grow and be challenged. Joshua is able to develop essential skills such as teamwork, communication and how to become a better role model. “This qualification and traineeship is a great first step in gaining experience in the workplace as I am exposed to a variety of people and multiple situations in which I gain a lot of valuable knowledge.”

“Joshua is reliable, professional, and consistent in all areas of Gymnastics and in his coaching role. In 2022, Joshua won the “Rising Star” award amongst 63 of his peers. The team at SGAC have been honoured to be part of his growth and development and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for this young man.” – Lisa, Gymnastics Manager, SCAC

Throughout his School Based Traineeship, Joshua has displayed excellent abilities to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously. He has exceptional communication and teamwork skills. His initiative and patience are beyond his years.

Joshua was also nominated and subsequently became the winner of the 2023 School-Based Apprentice/Trainee of the Year for the Western Sydney & Blue Mountains NSW Region.

Joshua continues to take initiative to extend his knowledge and understanding of Gymnastics by achieving a Beginners Coaching Accreditation and an Intermediate Men’s Gymnastics Judging Accreditation through Gymnastics NSW.

“Coaching has offered me a variety of challenges and obstacles that have helped me and provided me with skills that I will take with me forever.”
