Dylan’s Story

Dylan was shown our vacancy list by his careers advisor at school as he wanted to leave.  Now a 2nd Year apprentice in landscape construction, he left school at the beginning of Year 12 has not looked back.

Unsure what he wanted to do, he did know he wanted to work ‘hands on’ and landscaping gave him the variety of many trades including carpentry, bricklaying, horticulture and stonemasonry. Commencing TAFE in July, he attends Ryde one day a week for his off the job training.

This is adult education and relates to his day to day work.  Dylan enjoys learning about the various construction work and design this trade offers.  The photo is a small park in the inner west of Sydney having a complete renovation.  This included the demolition of the old park so they could build the new one including concreting the footpaths.

Dylan finds great accomplishment in seeing the work from beginning to the end product. Well liked by his work colleagues and supervisors, Dylan is always on time and very dedicated to learning his trade.

”This apprenticeship will lead me to many opportunities in the future and when I am qualified I may even start my own business”
