Arborists maintain and care for trees and shrubs by lopping limbs and shaping branches, treating trees with fertilisers and insecticides, removing dead or decaying trees, and advising on general tree care.


Australian Apprenticeship:  Tree Surgeon/Tree Climber

Certificate III in Arboriculture

Mature applicants welcome – 3 year apprenticeship on the job including 1.5 years at TAFE

  • No experience required
  • All training is completed on the job including TAFE 1 day per week
  • TAFE is a paid work day and no fees!


Interested in rock climbing, hiking, camping and outdoor activity, this may be your ideal career path!


Duties and Training:

  • Climbing trees with mechanical winches including rigging
  • Safe use of all machinery and equipment
  • Tree pruning and removal
  • Chainsaws and hand saws
  • Loading chipper
  • Stump grinding

  • Drivers licence (not ‘L’s) and own transport
